(Originally known as Freedive) Amazon is making a second push into the streaming-video space. While Amazon owns Amazon Prime Video, a fee-based site providing a large selection of TV, movies, and original programming, Amazon also owns the IMBd site. IMDb (Internet Movie Database) is an online database of information related to films, television programs, home videos, video games, and streaming content online. The site endeavors to provide details on each title, including cast members, production crew, personal biographies, plot summaries, trivia, reviews, and ratings. If you run across a program or movie title and wonder whether it is worth your time to watch, the IMDb site will usually provide you with enough information to help you with your decision. The site offers free viewing of some movies. In early 2019, Amazon launched Freedive, a streaming-video channel for Amazon Fire and Roku TV devices offering free, ad-supported TV shows and movies. The name may be listed as IMDb Freedive on Roku. Freedive, now returning to the original IMDb name, is separate from Amazon's Prime Video subscription, which either comes bundled with a Prime subscription or can be bought separately and offers ad-free streaming and originals like Jack Ryan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Americans, and more. IMDb (Freedive) features non-current TV shows such as Fringe, Heroes, The Bachelor and Without a Trace. It also has a library of movies. IMDb founder and CEO Col Needham said, "Customers already rely on IMDb to discover movies and TV shows and decide what to watch. With the launch of IMDb Freedive, they can now also watch full-length movies and TV shows on IMDb... We will continue to enhance IMDb Freedive based on customer feedback... ." IMDb has offered short form video series, trailers and celebrity interviews for some time. While some IMDb original series are available, the database has been extended into Hollywood-produced content. IMDb Freedive offers Amazon's X-Ray technology, which allows viewers to access IMDb-powered additional information about a project or its stars. All IMDb TV title pages on IMDb will have an option to "Watch for Free on IMDb TV". Additionally, you can find IMDb TV titles in your Watch list or other lists on the desktop website using the Where to Watch refine options. The selection of titles included with TV is always changing, and titles you're interested in might become available in the future. The parental controls that a parent might have setup in in Prime Videos does not jump over to this site. Parents will have to setup IMDb controls separately.
